Last Chance Waterfowl
January is usually one of the best months to connect with some big flocks of ducks and geese. Birds are sometimes forced to congregate in certain areas because of ice coverage or food availability. The best way to capitalize on these opportunities is by smart scouting. Cover as much ground as you can. Glassing known fields, checking farmland, stopping at sporting goods stores to probe the employees. Ask your UPS driver or mailman they cover more ground everyday than you could. When you do locate some birds, take your time to evaluate them. Find out what time they are coming and going, take some pictures of the groups so you will know how to set up your decoy spread.

Cold Weather Tactics
Hunting midday in January and February is very likely your best chance to connect with a whitetail on its feet looking for food. Watch the moon phase to assist your efforts. When the moon is bright deer will likely try to feed at night and bed at first light, then likely hit their feet at midday and feed a little more, when the moon is dark deer will seek cover and bed up out of the cold getting up for very short periods and doing the majority of their feeding during daylight.
